Campus Ministry

Fr. Tim Biren

Loyola High School Campus Ministry reaches out to high school students and staff to facilitate learning and expression of their faith, challenging individuals to grow spiritually, and aiding our school community to discover ways in which we are called to serve and honor God with our

Prayer
Loyola students and staff begin each day with prayer, giving God thanks and praise for the gift of a new day. Staff and students contribute to prayer which is related to daily scripture, world events, liturgical seasons or community needs. At the beginning of each class teachers pray with students - offering a short prayer or meaningful quote for reflection.

Retreats
Freshman RetreatEvery Loyola high school student has an opportunity to participate in an all-class retreat. Retreats for freshmen and sophomores are one day and focus on community building, Christian identity, prayer and discipleship. Junior and senior class retreats focus on practical application of Christian beliefs and with a look toward their future with faith. In addition, seniors are invited to help with freshmen retreats by providing small group leadership and giving witness to their own faith.

Liturgical Celebration

LiturgyStudents and staff participate in weekly celebrations of Eucharist or prayer services. Parents and community members are invited to attend these services. Students receive training in various liturgical roles, while others share their gifts in liturgical band and choir.

Campus Ministry facilitates opportunities for the Sacrament of Reconciliation during Advent, Lent, and other times as needed, with the school chaplain. Loyola's chapel is available for prayer throughout the day.

Service
Crusaders in the Community gives students opportunities to share their time and talent with the greater Mankato community. Loyola High School students take one day a year to offer their enthusiasm, labor and love to Mankato area individuals and organizations through various service projects. Campus Ministry keeps yearly records of hours served by students for use in college and employment applications.

For over 20 years, Loyola has worked with local parishes to provide for the needs and Christmas wishes of 15-20 families. Loyola Catholic School School students and staff on both the Good Counsel and Fitzgerald Campuses work with our four Mankato and North Mankato Catholic Parishes (Holy Rosary, SS Peter & Paul, St. John's and St. Joseph the Worker) to adopt anonymous parish families who are in need by collecting monies, shopping, and wrapping presents for each family. During the 2007-2008 school year, students raised over $8,000 in contributions toward this effort and shopped for and delivered gifts for 23 local families!
